I like getting things done and having fun at the same time. It keeps life interesting.

I’m just a Filipino guy in his late-twenties looking to do some good in the world.

I am currently working as a Product Marketing Manager at Deel, an organization creating remote opportunities for people all over the world. I’ve had the opportunity to launch exciting new products, manage our social channels, and explore go-to-market strategies through a variety of different marketing tactics. The experience has been an absolute whirlwind, and an accelerator for my skills across multiple marketing disciplines, and stakeholder management.

When people ask how my career in Marketing started, I always start my origin story at my days working as a barista at Starbucks. It was there that I first learned how much impact you could have on a person’s day with something as simple as coffee. I learned the meaning of customer service, I learned how to work efficiently (my record was making 81 frappucinos in an hour), and I learned if you did your job well you could get hired at Apple.

And that’s how I landed a job as a Product Specialist at Apple. During my time there I had the opportunity to explore a variety of roles, shifting from Product Specialist to Operations Specialist, Visuals Lead, and eventually Business Specialist. I developed my skills in Outbound Sales and CRM management, working with local businesses to improve their tech hardware. Our small but mighty business team of two was the top-performing in the Province.

In 2016 I graduated from SImon Fraser University with a degree in Communications and Publishing. I went on to become a Campus Coordinator at BrainStation, eventually joining their Growth team as a Learning Advisor. I continued to develop my skills in Sales, and was eventually offered a job as a Business Development Representative at Procurify, a procurement software. Within a year I transitioned into the role of Lead Development Representative, managing our marketing generated leads, and hiring and onboarding my own team.

With that experience I spent a short time at an IT company called Microserve as a Business Development Specialist, building and developing their lead development processes to increase performance across their sales team. Eventually I moved into a similar role at video creation software, Lumen5. At Lumen5 I developed the lead development flow and process including lead assignment, HubSpot management, and sales workflow, eventually hiring and training two junior Business Development Representatives. After they were onboarded, I transitioned into my role in Enterprise Marketing and Demand Gen, where I was responsible for our entire enterprise segment. I developed our enterprise ICP (ideal customer profile), created sales enablement content, and exceeded targets for delivering marketing-qualified leads. I managed and onboarded our outbound sales agency, as well as lead aggregators like Capterra, G2, and SoftwareAdvice. I was responsible for managing our Enterprise Marketing budget, reporting results and status on a weekly basis, and ensuring positive ROI across all channels.

Eventually I left Lumen5 and landed at my current workplace, Deel. I was the first official Marketing hire, and my responsibilities stretched across social media management, product marketing, sales enablement, and brand marketing. I’ve been with Deel through their growth from $30M to $12B, and I’ve seen the organization grow from less than 100 employees to over 1000. As of today, I am responsible for specific product areas as a Product Marketing Manager, and oversee all go-to-market activities for my assigned products. This includes weekly check-ins with Product Managers, creating go-to-market content, working with brand, design, and copy, and regular monitoring product growth metrics.

I’ve also had the opportunity to take on additional contracts and passion projects. I worked as a Growth Marketer at Lean Labs, a growth agency based in sunny Florida. I developed SEO and content strategies, as well as wrote content for multiple clients. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with an organization called Apryse, where I was onboarded as a Marketing Programs Manager to help guide them through a rebrand. Using Asana and Jira I project managed the entire website migration process in order to deliver a fresh new website within the given time-frame. I worked directly with their Product Marketers, Designers, Developers, and Digital Marketers to ensure on-time deliverables and well-executed content.

TL;DR I started working at Starbucks when I was in University, and now I’m a Product Marketing Manager at Deel. Who would’ve thought?
